MADDIE WILLIAMS X LESS
Breathable up-cycled Puffer Jacket in collaboration with less by JNBY (@jnby_china) which was available in 100+ stores across China. We used a patchworking technique to combine deadstock fabrics for the outer jacket, the lining is recycled polyester and the warmth comes from 'Repurposed Down' - goose and duck down that has been collected from post-consumer sources – like duvets and pillows – cleaned and given a second life!
I went to Hangzhou in October and November 2019 to work on a collaboration with the brand REVERB as a result of winning the Redress Design Award 2019. The intention was to create an ethical, up-cycled, capsule collection of pieces made predominantly from dead-stock fabric, for release in Autumn and Winter in China. It was definitely a case of being thrown in at the deep end! The collaboration was an authentic and unpatronising glimpse into the realities of having a career in fashion. The intensity of the experience had its fair share of positives and negatives. Unfortunately, after my second visit REVERB the brand was dissolved resulting in the loss of my capsule collection as well as REVERB’s other projects. Some REVERB pieces were picked up by JNBY’s other brands. The above puffa jacket is the only piece of mine that survived and made it to production after being picked up by the brand LESS.
Here are some pics of the REVERB studio, a hive of frenetic energy that I got to be part of for the duration of my short stay, and images the collection, as it was intended, in development.
