SOLD - Ash Dryad Bust
The powers of the Ash Tree are protection, health and courage.
The Ash tree is of particular cultural significance in a number of traditions. In Norse mythology it is known as The Tree of the World, with its deep roots in the kingdom of death, its trunk reaching up to the heavens and its boughs reaching out all across the kingdoms of Earth. The Native American Wabanaki tribe, who make baskets out of Ash bark, believe that their people were born from an Ash tree. In Tarot it is the Ash tree from which the hanged man is suspended.
Ash wood is strong and flexible and has been used to make weapons and tools, especially bows, arrows and spears for centuries, feeding into its reputation for being a protective tree.
In the Ogham Calendar Ash or Nion rules the 3rd lunar month from the 18th of February to the 17th of March. People born under this sign are especially compassionate and have a deep knowledge of the connectedness between themselves, the planet, the universe and other living beings.
The Ash Dryad wears a headdress of Ash Keys, she has a quiver of arrows for protection and the Triskelion spiral symbol on her chest to symbolise the trinities of life - death - rebirth, past - present - future and creation - preservation - destruction that The World Tree represents. This bust was made using recycled paper and cardboard covered in papermache, hand painted with acrylics and finished with varnish. There is a piece of Ash in the core of this bust.
